James- The Volunteer (narrative) by Rowan Marcus

JAMES – THE VOLUNTEER by Rowan Marcus James had been looking forward to a well-earned break; he had been on placement for 6 weeks now, and he was exhausted. It was what he had always wanted; he had, after all, just spent the better part of 4 years of his life studying in order to become a trained and registered doctor in a hospital – but a short respite would certainly be welcome before the final plunge into the chaotic world of emergency medicine.  Then Covid came, and everything changed. * * * * * * * * * * * * His graduation had been the first change. Instead of sitting in an auditorium with hundreds of other students graduating alongside him, he had sat alone in his lounge room in front of a screen, finishing his course with a Zoom rather than a bang. Instead of an afterparty lasting far into the night, he was in bed with the first of the stars, because he needed to be up before the rising of the sun. Like many of his fellow students, he was now in between t

‘Unsung Heroes’ The purpose of this project is to say thank you to the many unsung heroes of this current crisis; it’s about heralding the frontline workers, those who day in and day out risk and sometimes lose their lives in their passionate endeavour to heal the sick. In saying thank you, this song is also a celebration of these individuals who are working to meet people’s needs. We appreciate you, we rejoice that you are there for us, and we want to encourage you to keep working for the love of people. Most of all, we want you to understand that your hard work does not go unnoticed. We see you. As we were working remotely, Tony, Martin and I had to use the software and resources we had available to create a song that would effectively say thank you. It wasn’t easy. Much of the composition and arranging necessarily took place via Skype – so, thank you Skype. Most of all, the successful completion of this project relied on the gracefulness and efforts of all the individuals

Help Us Say Thank You

Beloved, I hope you are keeping safe during this testing time. This period of challenge that we are experiencing as a global family has opened our eyes to the unifying nature of struggle and the importance of putting a metaphorical arm around each other. Suddenly materialism doesn't mean as much, but song can give us the boost of hope we need to make it through. 1000s of medical staff and workers on the front line have been exposed to this virus and are courageously battling daily to help in the efforts to stop the spread.  As a team, we have been  working on a song to say thank you to these heroes. We would like to ask you to help to say thank you too. We are asking for your minds, talents and resources to spread this message of thanks all over the world so we can put our arms around the front line workers to say thank you.
